Dear Friends,
The Community School recently lost a former student and dear friend.
Jonathan Owens drowned off the coast of Wiscasset on Monday, June 21, 2010. Those of us who had the opportunity to know Jon will surely remember his wonderful personality, brave spirit, and loving way.
Among other gifts, Jon was an excellent musician and a talented artist. He was recently studying to become an art teacher University of Maine in Bath. I wish I had better words to express all that I’m feeling. My heart is deeply saddened.
Jon’s family has asked that those who wish may make donations to Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High Street, Bath, Maine 04530 to help with funeral expenses.
I’m sorry to be the bearer of such terrible news. Please send love and prayers to Jon and his family.
Sincerely,
Joseph

Remembering Jon
From an interview with Jonathan Owens, Fall 2008
Jon, how would you describe yourself?
I think I would describe myself as definitely a musician. Definitely, someone who is into art…got to have humor in my life everyday. That’s what keeps me going.
What is something good that not many people know about you?
Something good that not a whole lot of people know about me…I’m not usually judgmental. Usually I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt before I get to know you.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Stonehenge.
Why?
Just the fact that like there’s no way that humans could have put those stones there.
I mean they traveled so many miles across land and over waters. There is a team that attempted to do it a few years ago with today’s technology and they kept losing them in the water…and the fact that they’re perfectly in a circle and they catch the sunset just right every single morning. There’s something mysterious about it.
If you could spend one day with anyone, past, present, future, who would it be?
I would probably spend the day with Leonardo Da Vinci.
Do you have any heroes?
I usually find something about everyone that kind of inspires me about them. I used to try to make a list of like who’s my actual role model, but I think that everybody does something that kind of makes me want to follow in their footsteps.
If you could make one wish for someone else or for the world, what would it be?
Just stop the fighting. There’s no need in it. All you’re doing is just making it worse.
What is one of your biggest life goals?
Biggest life goal is to become a successful composer and performer in all kinds of music – bass guitar, drums, piano, vocals. To make a living off that would be the biggest goal.
